Fauquier Reaches for Excellence in School Health (FRESH) recently purchased two Blender Bikes to support the program’s mission to promote healthy lifestyle choices among students, staff, and the community. Similar to stationary exercise bikes, each is equipped with blenders on the front, made operational through pedaling.

FRESH collaborated with FCPS School Nutrition teams to debut the bikes during last week’s National School Breakfast week. Middle school students from Taylor, Cedar Lee, Auburn, and Marshall were able to take turns riding the bikes, blending ingredients to make FRESH’s signature strawberry spinach smoothie recipe. The event was a great success. Friends, teachers, and administrators competed against one another to see who could blend their smoothie the fastest. Students present during the event were able to sample the finished product, while full servings of smoothies were available for free as part of school breakfast. Numerous students remarked on how good the smoothie tasted, with many encouraging one another to try.

The bikes offer FRESH the perfect opportunity to ‘blend’ together their Eats and Moves programming, which focuses on the important mind-body connection of eating healthy and exercising routinely, while having fun. FRESH looks forward to making the blender bikes available for use during future school and community events.
